Welcome to the Official JFF2022 Website!

Thank you for joining us at the Japanese Film Festival 2022. Because of your continuing support, the Festival is celebrating its 18 th anniversary this year. Last year’s event had to be postponed because of COVID-19 and was eventually held this January, and so this has turned out to be a special year that brings you 2 Japanese Film Festivals.

In addition, this year commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Look East Policy which has contributed towards establishing close relations between Malaysia and Japan. Over this period many Malaysian youths have gone to Japan for further studies and helped bridge the divide between the two nations. We the Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur (JFKL) intends to continue its activities so that the seeds sown by the two governments through the LEP will flourish.

JFKL, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2019, organizes a variety of projects but this Film Festival has enjoyed the largest participation by far. It is often said that, “Cinema is a mirror of society,” but the lineup this year covers a diverse range of topics such as youthful love, animation industry, familial love, aging society, and a fish expert who is gaining popularity. It would give us great pleasure to have as many people as possible enjoy these films.

Lastly, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Golden Screen Cinemas, who has supported this event since its inception as the Venue Sponsor; our sponsors, GSC Movies, Mitsubishi Corporation, Kinokuniya Bookstore, and Kewpie; and the cooperation of Cinema Online, Embassy of Japan Malaysia, Consulate-General of Japan in Penang, and Consular Office of Japan at Kota Kinabalu.

Thank you!
